There are three widely recognized certification bodies in Agile – at Agileinnovation we offer training and support for two of these (the third, Scrum Alliance, awards certification without any serious exam – we don’t think it’s a good idea to award a cert based on someone just attending a pricey training course without regard to what they learnt!). For details on how you can combine practical, exercise-intensive agile training with gaining certification, see our training page.
This is the Agile Certified Practicioner offered by the Project Management Institute, the largest global body in project management. It covers all aspects of agile including concepts, soft skills, methods like Scrum and XP and is widely recognized and general enough to be applied in any project context. Certification is through a three hour online multiple-choice exam. To take the exam, fees of $495 are payable to PMI.
Professional ScrumMaster (PSM) and Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO)
Offered by Scrum.org, the organization headed by Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber, creators of Scrum. Certification is through a one-hour online multiple choice exam. To take the exams, fees of $100 (PSM I) and $200 (PSPO I) are payable to Scrum.org.
